Heritage Stone Underfoot: Cathedral Antique 40 x 40cm

An aged natural limestone in a generous 40 x 40cm square — Cathedral Antique from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

With its softly tumbled edges, gentle surface pitting and myriad of muted neutral tones, Cathedral Antique looks as though it has graced a country hallway for generations. The larger 40 x 40cm square makes a calm, characterful floor with fewer joints.

This is genuine quarried limestone — porous by nature and needing sealing — that repays care with a deep, mellow patina and years of hard-wearing service indoors and out.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tile suitable for outdoors?

Yes. Fired Earth Cathedral Antique is frost resistant and durable, making it suitable for external patios, pathways, and even swimming pool surrounds. It creates a beautiful seamless flow when used indoors and out.

Why does the surface have holes in it?

This is a deliberate feature of the "Antique" finish. The tumbling process highlights the natural pits and voids in the limestone to replicate the wear and tear of centuries-old stone floors. These can be left open or filled with grout during installation.

Is it suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, absolutely. At 1.5cm thick, this limestone acts as a substantial thermal mass, holding heat efficiently and radiating it into the room.

What grout colour should I use?

We recommend a limestone, beige, or light grey grout. This complements the natural tones of the stone. A joint width of 5mm is recommended to accommodate the irregular tumbled edges.

Is it hard to keep clean?

Once sealed, it is relatively easy to maintain. The textured, pitted surface actually hides dirt and footprints very well. Regular sweeping and mopping with a pH-neutral stone cleaner (like Lithofin Wash & Clean) is all that is required.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Sealing (essential): This is porous natural limestone. Seal with a quality impregnating stone sealer before grouting and again after laying, and reseal periodically to guard against staining.
  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a flexible white or natural stone adhesive and a soft, tonal grout. Avoid acidic or strongly cementitious grouts, which can mark limestone.
  • Cleaning: Sweep and mop with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Never use vinegar, bleach or abrasive products, which will etch and dull the stone.
PLAN IT ONCE. KEEP IT TOGETHER.
