Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Original Style Artisan Skirting tiles suitable for floors?

No. Despite sitting at floor level, the Artisan Skirting is exclusively designed and engineered as a decorative baseboard for interior wall applications. The ceramic body, raised profile, and gloss glaze finish cannot withstand foot traffic.

Do these gloss glaze skirting tiles require sealing?

While standard gloss tiles typically do not require sealing upon installation, it is important to note that the Winchester Artisan glazes can naturally craze (develop fine hairline cracks) over time due to the handcrafted nature of the ceramic body. If crazing occurs, you must apply a crackle glaze impregnator to protect the tile.

Can I use the Skirting in a shower enclosure?

Yes, with careful installation. They are perfectly suitable for sitting at the base of tiling within shower walls and wet areas, provided they are installed with a highly water-resistant adhesive and grout. If any crazing occurs on the glaze, you must maintain a protective sealant layer to ensure water does not penetrate the ceramic in high-splash zones.

How many pieces do I need to order?

The Artisan Skirting tiles measure 150x150mm (15x15cm). To accurately determine your requirements, measure your space linearly rather than by area. You will need approximately 6.7 pieces per lm (linear metre). We always advise ordering an additional 10% to account for cuts, corners, and wastage during installation.

How do I clean and maintain these ceramic trims?

Maintenance requires a gentle approach to protect the luminous glaze. Simply wipe the trim down regularly with a soft cloth and a mild, pH-neutral bathroom or kitchen cleaner. You must absolutely avoid harsh bleach, acidic cleaners, or abrasive scouring pads, as these can permanently scratch and damage the beautiful surface.

The Perfect Baseboard Finish

If you are looking for ways to polish a tiled space to absolute perfection, the Original Style Artisan Skirting is the ultimate solution. Serving as a beautifully proportioned 150mm high decorative baseboard, it provides a seamless and dramatic transition between your floor and the tiled wall above. It is the perfect choice for anchoring your wall tiling with an undeniable sense of heritage charm and bespoke craftsmanship.

English Heritage Inspiration

The Artisan collection is specifically designed for those who wish to infuse their home with the tranquil, grounded atmosphere of the English countryside and historic interiors. The Skirting tiles are available in the exact same heritage colour palette as the main field and half tiles. You can perfectly colour-match your trim for a unified aesthetic, or playfully mix contrasting tones to create a striking, defined base border.

Handcrafted Appeal

While these skirting mouldings offer the reliability of modern manufacturing, they brilliantly capture the charming imperfections of authentic handcrafted ceramics. The Artisan range evolved from the historic process of refining raw clay, pouring, pressing, moulding, and shaping. Every single piece is carefully crafted, resulting in a luminous gloss glaze with a beautiful depth of colour that bounces light effortlessly around the smooth, classic moulded profile.

Installation & Care Tips

To achieve the best possible finish with your glossy mouldings, we strongly recommend unpacking and blending pieces prior to fixing to ensure the glaze variations flow beautifully across your design. For ongoing maintenance, simply wipe the skirting down regularly with a soft cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner.
