Product story

Crisp Classic White: Retro Metro Marble Arch 7.5 x 15cm

The brightest, cleanest white in the range, with an authentic crackle glaze — Retro Metro Marble Arch from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

Named after one of London's most iconic landmarks, Marble Arch delivers a bright, reflective white that maximises light and space. The thick glaze carries a deliberate crackle (crazing) that stops the white ever looking flat or sterile, adding texture and vintage charm — the definitive choice for the classic Underground look.

The versatile 7.5 x 15cm brick format opens up brick-bond, herringbone and stack layouts. As a glazed ceramic wall tile it is for interior walls; we recommend sealing the crackle glaze before grouting.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to seal these tiles?

The Retro Metro Marble Arch tile features a genuine crackle glaze (also known as crazing). These microscopic cracks give the tile its vintage charm but also make the surface porous. You must use a high-quality impregnating sealer before grouting to stop the grout pigment from staining the cracks, and again after installation to make the wall watertight.

Can I use these tiles in a shower?

Yes, absolutely. Once correctly sealed, Retro Metro tiles are fully waterproof and durable enough for shower walls and bathroom splashbacks. We recommend reapplying the sealer periodically (every 1-2 years) in high-water areas to maintain protection.

What grout colour should I use?

We generally recommend lighter grouts (White, Light Grey, or Limestone) for crackle glaze tiles. If you wish to use a dark or contrasting grout (like charcoal), you must test it on a spare tile first. Dark pigments can seep into the crackle glaze and permanently darken the appearance of the tile.

What is the best layout pattern?

The 7.5cm x 15cm format is incredibly versatile. Popular layouts include:

  • Brick Bond: The classic "subway" offset pattern.
  • Herringbone: A sophisticated zig-zag pattern (requires slightly more tiles for cuts).
  • Vertical Stack: A modern, linear look that can heighten the room.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix to interior walls with a white flexible adhesive suitable for glazed ceramic to avoid shadowing beneath the pale glaze, using a fine 2–3mm joint.
  • Sealing: Seal the crackle glaze before grouting to stop grout pigment settling into the crazing, then seal again afterwards for a watertight finish.
  • Cleaning: Wipe clean with warm water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads. Test dark grout on a spare tile first, as it can emphasise the crazing.
