Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a skirting tile and a field tile?

While both are 152x152mm in this range, the skirting tile features a decorative relief profile at the top and often a slightly thicker base. This mimics the appearance of a traditional wooden skirting board or stone plinth, whereas a field tile is flat.

Can skirting tiles be used with any floor type?

Yes. While they are designed to coordinate with Original Style Victorian floor tiles, they can be used with any porcelain, stone, or LVT flooring. They provide a much more hygienic and waterproof seal at the floor-to-wall junction than timber.

Do I need special corner pieces for skirting tiles?

Yes, external "oyster" corners are available to ensure a neat, professional finish when the skirting needs to travel around a corner or into a door reveal. Internal corners are typically achieved by mitring the tiles.

Are these tiles suitable for a bathroom?

Absolutely. In fact, they are highly recommended for bathrooms. Because they are made of glazed ceramic, they are 100% waterproof and will not be damaged by puddles or humidity, unlike traditional MDF or wood skirting.

How many skirting tiles do I need per linear metre?

Each tile is 152mm wide. To cover one linear metre, you will need approximately 6.6 tiles. We suggest ordering a 10% surplus to account for cuts and mitring at corners.

The Foundation of Period Design
At 152mm high, the Artworks skirting tile provides a substantial visual base that anchors your wall design. It is specifically designed to sit beneath our Artworks Field Tiles or Artworks Half Tiles, creating a seamless, fully-tiled look from the floor up. This is a classic technique used in Victorian "wet-rooms" and grand entryways to protect walls from moisture and cleaning equipment.

A Perfectly Coordinated Finish
Each skirting tile is finished with the same translucent heritage glazes found across the entire range, ensuring a flawless match with our Victorian Floor Tiles. Whether you choose the iconic Royal Blue or a neutral Vintage White, the high-gloss surface reflects light and adds a sense of depth to the room. For a complete decorative scheme, consider framing the top of your tiled section with an Artworks Albert Moulding.
