Textured Heritage: Dartmouth Beaten Oak

Bring the tactile history of a craftsman's workshop into your home with Dartmouth Beaten Oak—an engineered wood floor that combines a classic plank width with a dramatic, distressed finish.

The **Dartmouth** collection is celebrated for its premium construction, offering a substantial 15mm thickness that feels solid and permanent underfoot. The **Beaten Oak** finish takes this luxury further; each plank features edges and surfaces that appear "beaten" or hand-worked, mimicking the wear of centuries. The wood is finished with a rich, warm oil that highlights the golden and bronze tones of the oak, while dark filler in the knots adds to the authentic, rustic appeal.

Design Inspiration

🏡 Cozy Cottages

The distressed "beaten" look is perfect for cottages or period properties where a pristine floor might look out of place. It blends seamlessly with exposed brick, beams, and antique furniture. Shop wood flooring.

📏 Perfect Proportions

The 150mm plank width is a classic size—not too wide, not too narrow. It suits smaller rooms just as well as open-plan spaces, providing a balanced aesthetic that doesn't overwhelm the floor plan. View engineered wood.

👋 Tactile Texture

This is a floor meant to be touched. The oiled finish feels natural and warm, while the beaten texture provides a gentle massage underfoot, connecting you to the natural world. Browse oak flooring.

⚠️ Installation & Care Tips

  • Installation Method: This T&G board is versatile. It can be installed as a floating floor (glued joints), nailed to a wooden subfloor, or fully bonded to the screed.
  • Underfloor Heating: Compatible with UFH systems. To ensure the best performance and board stability, the glue-down method is recommended.
  • Oiled Finish Care: The oil finish penetrates the wood to protect it. Regular cleaning with Woodpecker's specific oiled wood cleaner will nourish the timber and maintain its lustre.
  • Rustic Character: This floor is designed to look aged. Expect significant colour variation, large knots, and cracks filled with dark filler. This is the intended "Beaten" aesthetic.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between "Dartmouth" and "Berkeley" Beaten Oak?

Both feature a distressed, hand-worked finish. The main difference is the size. Berkeley is a wide-plank range (190mm wide), whereas Dartmouth features a classic, narrower plank (150mm wide). The Dartmouth size is often preferred for smaller rooms or hallways where a wide plank might look overwhelming.

What is the wear layer?

It features a generous 4mm solid oak wear layer on top of a stable engineered core. This ensures the floor has the longevity of solid wood and can be sanded in the future if required (though sanding would remove the "beaten" texture).

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes, Woodpecker Flooring provides an exceptional 100-year warranty on this product, covering the structural integrity of the planks for a lifetime.

Is it suitable for pets?

Yes. The "Beaten" texture and Rustic grade make this floor incredibly forgiving. Scratches from pet claws tend to blend into the existing distressed character rather than standing out as damage.

Is it easy to clean?

Yes. Regular sweeping and a damp (not wet) mop with the appropriate Woodpecker cleaning solution is all that is needed. The oiled finish nourishes the wood and can be spot-repaired if necessary.
