Contemporary Grey, Classic Form: Orkney Pewter Oak

Merge the sophistication of modern grey design with the timeless elegance of parquet using Orkney Pewter Oak—an engineered herringbone floor that redefines rustic luxury.

The **Orkney** collection brings the traditional 90mm x 400mm herringbone block into the 21st century. **Pewter Oak** features a cooling wash of **soft ashen and silver-grey tones**, creating a calm, neutral base for any room. Yet, it retains a deep connection to the past; the surface is **hand-scraped** and marked with authentic **saw cuts**, giving the floor a rugged, tactile finish that feels alive underfoot. Finished with a durable UV Oil, it is the perfect choice for those who want the look of reclaimed timber with a modern colour palette.

Design Inspiration

🏙️ Urban Industrial

🌫️ The "Greige" Balance

Pewter Oak sits perfectly between grey and beige. This versatility allows it to adapt to changing trends, working equally well with cool monochromes or warmer taupes and creams. View engineered wood.

⚠️ Installation & Care Tips

  • Installation Method: For a stable and long-lasting herringbone floor, we strictly recommend the full glue-down method. This prevents movement and ensures the pattern stays tight.
  • Underfloor Heating: Fully compatible with UFH systems when fully bonded to the screed. This ensures efficient heat transfer and stability.
  • Wastage: Herringbone installations require more cutting than standard planks. We recommend allowing for **10-15% wastage** to ensure you have enough material to complete the pattern.
  • Rustic Character: This floor is "Extra Rustic." Expect significant colour variation, large knots, and visible saw marks. These are deliberate design features intended to replicate the character of reclaimed timber.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Is herringbone hard to install?

It requires more skill and time than standard planks. The blocks must be laid out precisely to ensure the pattern runs straight. We strongly recommend using a professional floor fitter experienced in parquet/herringbone installation.

What is the wear layer?

It features a substantial 4mm solid oak wear layer on top of a stable engineered core. This ensures the floor has the longevity of solid wood and can be sanded in the future if required.

Can I use this in a hallway?

Yes, it is perfect for hallways. The herringbone pattern directs the eye, making narrow spaces feel grander. The textured, rustic finish is also very practical for high-traffic areas as it disguises dirt and scuffs.

Can I use this in a kitchen?

Yes, engineered oak is suitable for kitchens. The UV oil finish creates a durable seal against spills, although we recommend wiping up liquids immediately. The rustic, textured nature of Passage Oak is also very forgiving of daily wear and tear.

What is the difference between "Orkney" and "Dartmouth" Pewter Oak?

The finish (colour and texture) is the same, but the format is different. Dartmouth is a standard wide plank (190mm x 1900mm), while Orkney is a herringbone block (90mm x 400mm). This allows you to choose the laying pattern that best suits your room.

Is Pewter Oak grey or brown?

It is predominantly grey, but with warmth. It features soft ashen and silver tones rather than a flat, cold industrial grey. The natural oak underneath adds subtle warmth, preventing it from looking too stark.
