Contemporary Heritage: Orkney Truffle Oak

Blend the timeless elegance of parquet with the earthy sophistication of modern design. Orkney Truffle Oak is an engineered herringbone floor that washes the warmth of heritage timber with a contemporary grey-brown glaze.

The **Orkney** collection updates the classic 90mm x 400mm herringbone block for today's interiors. **Truffle Oak** captures the perfect "greige" balance—a harmonious mix of **washed grey and earthy brown tones** that adapts to both cool and warm colour schemes. The surface is richly textured; **hand-scraped** undulations and authentic **visible saw marks** give the floor a tactile, lived-in character that feels robust and established. Finished with a durable UV Oil, it offers a refined yet rustic foundation for your home.

⚠️ Installation & Care Tips

  • Installation Method: For a stable and long-lasting herringbone floor, we strictly recommend the full glue-down method. This prevents movement and ensures the pattern stays tight.
  • Underfloor Heating: Fully compatible with UFH systems when fully bonded to the screed. This ensures efficient heat transfer and stability.
  • Wastage: Herringbone installations require more cutting than standard planks. We recommend allowing for **10-15% wastage** to ensure you have enough material to complete the intricate pattern.
  • Rustic Character: This floor is "Extra Rustic." Expect significant colour variation, large knots, and visible saw marks. These are deliberate design features intended to replicate the character of reclaimed timber.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Is herringbone hard to install?

It requires more skill and time than standard planks. The blocks must be laid out precisely to ensure the pattern runs straight. We strongly recommend using a professional floor fitter experienced in parquet/herringbone installation.

What is the wear layer?

It features a substantial 4mm solid oak wear layer on top of a stable engineered core. This ensures the floor has the longevity of solid wood and can be sanded in the future if required.

Can I use this in a hallway?

Yes, it is perfect for hallways. The herringbone pattern directs the eye, making narrow spaces feel grander. The textured, rustic finish is also very practical for high-traffic areas as it disguises dirt and scuffs.

Can I use this in a kitchen?

Yes, engineered oak is suitable for kitchens. The UV oil finish creates a durable seal against spills, although we recommend wiping up liquids immediately. The rustic, textured nature of Passage Oak is also very forgiving of daily wear and tear.

What is the difference between "Orkney" and "Dartmouth" Truffle Oak?

The finish (colour and texture) is the same, but the format is different. Dartmouth is a standard wide plank (190mm x 1900mm), while Orkney is a herringbone block (90mm x 400mm). This allows you to choose the laying pattern that best suits your room, or use both to define different zones in an open-plan space.

What colour is "Truffle Oak"?

Truffle Oak is defined by its washed grey-brown tones. It isn't a stark grey or a traditional golden oak; it creates a versatile, earthy "greige" palette that feels grounded and sophisticated.
