Crazing: This tile is prone to natural crazing (fine lines in the glaze), which is an inherent characteristic and not a defect.
Tonal Variation: Significant variation is expected. Always blend tiles from multiple boxes before fixing.
Grout Selection: A 3mm grout joint is recommended. Use a high-quality flexible grout to accommodate natural movement.
Sealing: Generally not required for the glazed surface, but check if the terracotta edges require protection in high-moisture zones.

Access Issues For Large Pallet Deliveries

Our delivery drivers may be prevented from delivering your order by the following:

• Low hanging trees and bridges.

• Narrow roads, gateways, or cars on either side of the road.

• No turning point for the delivery vehicle.

• Unfinished tracks and roads.

• Lack of solid and flat surface to unload.

• Gravel driveways.

If access issues are not advised and/or delivery cannot be made due to unattendance at delivery, a re-delivery charge may be applied.

Are these tiles really hand-painted?

Yes, every single Acapulco Alva tile is hand-painted by skilled artisans. Because they are not mass-produced by machines, you will notice charming "imperfections" such as slight variations in brushstrokes, pigment depth, and pattern alignment. This is exactly what gives a hand-painted wall its unique, soulful character.

Why do I see fine lines in the glaze (crazing)?

Crazing is a series of hairline cracks in the glaze surface. This is a deliberate and natural characteristic of traditional glazed terracotta tiles. It does not affect the structural integrity of the tile; rather, it enhances the "antique" or "artisanal" look that Fired Earth tiles are famous for.

Can I use the Acapulco Alva tiles on a bathroom floor?

No, these tiles are specifically designed for wall use only. Because they have a high-gloss glaze and a terracotta base, they are not suitable for foot traffic, which would scratch the glaze and potentially crack the tile. For floor options, we recommend exploring our Patterned Floor Tiles.

Do I need to seal these tiles?

The glazed surface itself is non-porous and does not require sealing. However, because the base is terracotta, some installers prefer to seal the grout lines and any exposed edges (especially in wet areas like showers) to prevent moisture from seeping into the clay body.

How many tiles do I need for my splashback

There are 95 tiles per square metre. When calculating your order, we always recommend adding a 10% wastage allowance to cover cuts, corners, and potential breakages during installation.

Can I mix Alva with other patterns in the Acapulco range?

Absolutely! The Alva design is specifically scaled to work alongside other Acapulco designs like Salazar or Zenil. Many designers create a "patchwork" effect by mixing several designs, or use Alva as a decorative border against a plain Metro tile.

Is it safe to use these tiles behind a gas hob?

Yes, these ceramic tiles are heat-resistant and perfect for kitchen splashbacks. We simply recommend maintaining a distance of at least 30cm from a direct open flame or intense heat source to ensure the longevity of the glaze.
