Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between wall tiles and floor tiles?

While many tiles are suitable for both walls and floors, the key difference lies in their thickness, durability and slip resistance. Wall tiles are typically thinner and lighter, designed to be fixed vertically where they do not need to withstand foot traffic. Floor tiles are denser and more robust, with a higher wear rating and often a textured or anti-slip finish for safety underfoot. Importantly, you should never use a wall tile on the floor, as it is not rated to take the load and may crack. However, many floor tiles can be used on walls to create a coordinated, seamless look. At Hyperion Tiles, every product page clearly indicates suitability, and our team is on hand to confirm the right choice for your project.

Are your wall tiles suitable for bathrooms and showers?

Yes. A large proportion of our wall tile collection is ideal for bathrooms, showers and wet rooms. For these moisture-rich environments we particularly recommend porcelain and glazed ceramic tiles, which have very low water absorption and are easy to keep clean. Natural stone and marble can also be used to beautiful effect in bathrooms, though they should be properly sealed to protect against water and staining. Glass mosaics are another popular choice for showers thanks to their water resistance and light-reflecting finish. When tiling a shower enclosure or wet room, correct waterproofing behind the tiles is essential. If you let us know the area you are tiling, we can recommend tiles and ancillary products suited to the conditions.

How do I calculate how many wall tiles I need?

Start by measuring the height and width of each wall you intend to tile, then multiply them together to find the area in square metres. Add the areas of all the walls together, and subtract the area of any large openings such as windows or doors. We then strongly recommend adding 10 to 15 percent extra to allow for cuts, breakages and future repairs, and slightly more for patterned tiles or diagonal layouts, where wastage is higher. Ordering a little extra from the same batch also protects you against subtle shade variations between production runs. If you are unsure, our team is happy to help you calculate quantities accurately so you order with confidence.

Can I use large-format tiles on my walls?

Absolutely. Large-format wall tiles have become increasingly popular for creating a contemporary, expansive feel with minimal grout lines, which makes a room appear larger and easier to keep clean. They work particularly well in bathrooms and feature areas where a sleek, uninterrupted surface is desired. Because larger tiles are heavier, it is important that the wall is sound, flat and properly prepared, and that a suitable adhesive rated for large-format tiles is used. For very large or heavy porcelain panels, professional installation is recommended. We can advise on the right adhesives and ancillaries to ensure a secure, long-lasting finish.

Do you offer samples before I buy?

Yes, we offer free samples across our wall tile range so you can experience the colour, texture and finish in your own space before making a decision. Lighting, neighbouring finishes and the time of day can all dramatically affect how a tile looks, so seeing a physical sample at home is invaluable. Simply request your samples through the product pages, and if you would like to compare several options side by side, you are also warmly welcome to visit our Ascot showroom, where you can view the full ranges and discuss your project with our team.

What finishes are available, and how do I choose between them?

Our wall tiles come in a variety of finishes, including gloss, matt, satin, textured and crackle glaze. Gloss tiles reflect light beautifully and are excellent for brightening smaller or darker rooms, as well as being very easy to wipe clean. Matt and satin finishes offer a softer, more understated and contemporary look, and tend to disguise water spots and smears well. Textured and three-dimensional tiles add tactile interest and work brilliantly on feature walls. The right finish ultimately depends on the room's lighting, its practical demands and the atmosphere you wish to create. Our team is always glad to help you weigh up the options and select a finish that suits both your style and your space.

Explore an Extensive Range of Wall Tile Styles and Materials

From timeless metro and brick formats to large-format porcelain, handmade crackle-glaze ceramics and richly veined marble, our wall tiles span every interior style. Choose gloss finishes to bounce light around compact rooms, tactile matt surfaces for understated elegance, or patterned and decorative tiles to add personality and depth. With colours ranging from soft neutrals to deep, saturated tones, there is a wall tile here to complement any scheme.

Ceramic and Porcelain Wall Tiles

Ceramic and porcelain remain the most versatile and hard-wearing choices for walls. Porcelain offers exceptional density and water resistance, making it ideal for showers, wet rooms and high-traffic areas, while glazed ceramic delivers vivid colour and a flawless finish. Both are straightforward to clean and maintain, retaining their appearance for years with minimal effort.

Natural Stone and Marble Wall Tiles

For interiors that demand a sense of occasion, natural stone and marble wall tiles introduce unmatched depth and individuality. Each tile carries its own veining, movement and tonal variation, ensuring no two walls are ever quite the same. Marble brings polished glamour to bathrooms and feature walls, while limestone, travertine and slate lend warmth and organic character. Sealing is recommended to protect these natural surfaces and preserve their beauty.

Feature Walls and Decorative Tiles

A single feature wall can redefine a room. Our decorative and patterned wall tiles, from Moroccan-inspired designs to three-dimensional textured surfaces, let you create a focal point that feels considered and bespoke. Pair a bold patterned tile with simpler field tiles elsewhere to balance impact with sophistication.

Choosing the Right Wall Tile for Your Space

Consider both the practical demands and the mood of the room. Moisture-prone areas such as bathrooms and kitchens benefit from low-porosity porcelain or sealed stone, while living spaces offer more freedom to experiment with texture and finish. Larger tiles create a seamless, contemporary look with fewer grout lines, whereas smaller formats and brick bonds suit period and characterful interiors. Our team is always happy to advise on the best option for your project.
