Frequently Asked Questions

What is solid wood flooring?

Solid wood flooring is milled from a single piece of timber, such as oak, through its entire thickness. It can be sanded back and refinished many times over its life, ages beautifully and, properly cared for, lasts for generations.

What is the difference between solid and engineered wood?

Solid wood is one piece of timber throughout, prized for its longevity and ability to be refinished. Engineered wood has a real-wood top layer over a plywood core, which makes it more dimensionally stable and better suited to underfloor heating.

Can solid wood flooring be used with underfloor heating?

Solid wood is generally not recommended over underfloor heating, as it reacts more to changes in temperature and humidity. For underfloor heating, our engineered wood flooring is the better choice.

Where can I use solid wood planks?

Solid wood is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways at or above ground level. It's best avoided in bathrooms, wet rooms and below-ground spaces such as basements, where moisture levels fluctuate.

How do I care for solid wood flooring?

Sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a cleaner formulated for wood, avoiding excess water. Over the years it can be sanded and re-oiled or re-lacquered to restore its finish, one of the great advantages of solid timber.

Can I order samples of solid wood planks?

Yes. We recommend ordering samples to see the species, grain and finish in your space, or visiting our Ascot showroom to view the planks in person.
