Tumbling changes it considerably. The mirror is gone, replaced by a soft powdery matt face and rounded edges, and the grey veining reads quieter and more chalky as a result. It is Carrara with the formality taken out of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"line-height: 1.6;\"\u003eThe ellipse is an unusually gentle shape for a mosaic. Each stone is a rounded oval, so the sheet has no straight lines at all and the pattern flows in curved rows that ripple slightly under raking light. It looks its best on a bathroom floor where the curve can spread across the whole space, or on a shower niche back where the tumbled surface also gives a little useful grip. A tumbled face is more absorbent than a polished one, so allow the first coat to soak in fully before you grout.
